Bollywood movies I love despite being a Hollywood fan

Being a Hollywood fan living in Pakistan, Bollywood movies always seem pretty mediocre to me and there’s a good reason to it too, I mean they simply can’t come up with a movie like Inception (2010) or Shutter Island (2010) or The Prestige (2006), you get the point. Varun Dhawan did stupidly compare a Bollywood movie to Inception but let’s not get into that.

Despite not particularly liking Bollywood movies there are still some pretty decent Bollywood movies as well as some must watch top notch gems.

Here’s a list of Bollywood movies I  love despite being a Hollywood fan

  • Baabarr (2009)

The story of a young innocent boy who grows up to be a feared gangster. It is an emotional movie with some great actors.

  • London Paris New York (2012)

If you ask me, simple romcom movies like London Paris New York is what Bollywood lack. It is simple, it is short unlike your average 3-hour long Bollywood movies and the plot is quite believable.

  • Shaitan (2011)

A couple of youngsters fake their own friend’s kidnapping to pay a blackmailing cop but things go south as soon as the father involves police.

A movie with a powerful message, pointing out everything that’s wrong with our education system and everything else a student suffers.

  • Rang De Basanti (2006)

The story of a group of young Indians helping an English woman film a documentary on Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and his companions but end up fighting their own fight with the corrupt government to get justice for their martyred friend

  • Taare Zameen Par (2007)

The story of an eight-year-old having trouble studying the typical way and adjusting to hostel life until his new art teacher takes interest in the kid and helps him through. It is an absolute must watch with eye watering scenes.

  • Vaastav (1999)

The journey of two men from running a pav bhaji stall to becoming ice cold killers and how it effects the lives of people around them.
