How I defeated depression without medication

How I defeated depression without medication

As a person in my early twenties, with nothing going right in my life and an introverted personality, sadness and loneliness have always been a part of my life but one way or another I learned to live with it yet I’ve never really been depressed until about an year ago when all of a sudden things changed and I became really depressed and being in Pakistan where mental health is taken lightly and hardly anyone considers depression seriously, I was totally out of options and for some time I was under the impression that depression will forever be a part of me and honestly I find it miraculous how I defeated depression without medication

How I defeated depression without medication

There came a time when I decided things can no longer be the same and I worked on myself, started going out more, gave happy music a chance, talked to new people and even though it’s a slow process, luckily with time it got better and somehow, I was no longer depressed.

Here’s what I learned through my personal experience; you can never defeat depression with a negative mind, you can hate yourself all you want, listen to sad songs and sob believing you are good for nothing and two years from now you’ll still be depressed or even more depressed, to defeat depression you MUST keep a positive mind and learn to love yourself before you expect others to love you.

A list of things that helped me through depression

Watch feel good movies like The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) and Begin Again (2013) to give yourself the encouragement that you lack due to depression, for me and so many like myself, movies were a huge help.

Being an Introvert

Stop pulling all-nighters

I have always been a night person and enjoyed nighttime more than daytime but then again there’s a difference between being a night person and staying up the whole friggin’ night. Fix a routine and stop staying up the whole night for no reason, it’ll be a big help.

My cats

Even when you feel like you have no one, you’ll still have your cat. Get yourself a cat or any other pet and you’ll never feel lonely.

Cut off negative people

Let go of the people that makes you feel like you’re not good enough, you’re already depressed enough, you most definitely don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. Cut those people off and you’ll see a huge change in no time, I know I did

A few quality friends

Quality over quantity. You don’t need a hundred fake friends but a very few real ones.

Read a book

Start a book and actually finish it, even if you’re not a reader like me.

Change your playlist, stop listening to sad music all the time try to add some happy music into your playlist and you’ll automatically start to feel good.
