From Zayn Malik to Kumail Nanjiani, there are so many Muslims in every industry now, having huge fan followings too. For today’s list we’ve picked some of the most famous Muslim actors in Hollywood. The list will not include Pakistani actors in Hollywood as there’s already a separate article on that.



Here’s a list of Muslim Actors in Hollywood

1) Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle is a comedy genius, he is known for his extremely famous stand-up routines, his 2003 Chappelle’s Show and roles in many movies such as Half Baked, The Nutty Professor, Blue Streak, Con Air and many more. Dave Chappelle was originally an atheist but he is among many other Hollywood celebrities who converted to Islam. Dave often doesn’t speak up about his religion as he wants to keep his faith to himself.

 

2) Aziz Ansari

Aziz Ansari is an Indian American actor and comedian, he has appeared in a number of movies and TV Shows, he is mostly known for his roles in Parks and recreation and Master of none. Aziz is among one of the most famous Muslim celebrities in Hollywood.

 

3) Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson, at one time in her career was considered a sex symbol with her provocative music videos but some time after her third marriage, she became a Muslim, Janet Jackson converted to Islam and joined her fellow Hollywood celebrities who converted to Islam.

 

4) Ice Cube

Ice Cube, originally known as  O’Shea Jackson is one of the many Hollywood celebrities who converted to Islam, he converted to Islam in the early 90’s. Ice Cube calls himself a “Natural Muslim”. He is an American rapper, actor and writer. Some of his most famous movies include Friday, Straight Outta Compton and Boyz n the Hood while It was a good day, Check yo self and You can do it are some of Ice Cube’s most famous songs.

5) Ellen Burstyn

Not many know Ellen Burstyn, the phenomenal actress as a Muslim actress in Hollywood, she is also one of the Hollywood celebrities who converted to Islam, she was raised Catholic but converted to Islam in her thirties, she was given the name ‘Hadiya’ by her Muslim teacher. Ellen Burstyn began her career in the 1950’s, some of her famous roles include The Exorcist (1973), Requiem for a Dream (2000), Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974) and House of Cards. 



6) Mos Def

Mos Def is a hip hop artist, activist and an actor, known for his role in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, 16 Blocks, Brown Sugar and The Italian Job. He converted to Islam at the age of 19 and joined the list of Muslim actors in Hollywood

 

7) Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali previously known as Cassius Clay is one of the greatest athlete of the 20th century. World heavyweight boxing champion, Cassius Clay against his family converted to Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. Apart from boxing, Ali also appeared in a number of movies, The Greatest, When We Were Kings, The Super Fight and Freedom Road are some of his famous movies, Ali also has a number of Biographies and Documentaries made about his life. Muhammad Ali is one of the most famous Muslim celebrities in Hollywood.

8) Saïd Taghmaoui

Saïd Taghmaoui, the French-American Muslim actor in Hollywood has worked in so many big Hollywood movies and is one of the more known Muslim actors in Hollywood with roles in movies such as Wonder Woman, G.I Joe, Traitor, American Hustle and many more.

 

9) Irrfan Khan

The Indian Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, after making a name in Bollywood has now a pretty good reputation in Hollywood too as one of the Muslim actors in Hollywood with great performances in Life of Pi, Jurassic World, The Amazing Spider-Man among others.




10) Mahershala Ali

Mahershala Ali is an actor and a rapper, originally known as Mahershalalhashbaz Ali. Mahershala has appeared in some huge hits such as Hidden figures, The curious case of Benjamin Button,  Hunger games 2014 and 2015 . He won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in 2017 for his role in Moonlight. Mahershala is known to be a practicing Muslim and is very devoted to his religion.

 

11) Aasif Mandvi

Aasif Mandvi is a Muslim actor and a comedian from India. He got his first role in Hollywood in 1990 and has been around ever since. He is a regular co-respondent on The Daily Show, his other work includes roles in The Internship, The Last Airbender, Million Dollar Arm among many others. Aasif is also the actor, producer and writer of web-series called Halal in the family which is a comedy sitcom revolving around Aasif’s family showing Islamophobia in a comedic manner.

 

12) Ghostface Killah

Ghostface Killah, originally Dennis Coles is a rapper, actor and a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, in 2013 he converted to Islam and joined the list of famous Muslims in Hollywood.

 

13) Mehmet Oz

Mehmet Oz originally from Turkey is an American TV personality, famous for The Dr. Oz Show which started in 2009 has been up and running since. Mehmet Oz has appeared in a number of other TV shows as well but The Dr. Oz Show is by far his most famous one.

 

14) Omar Metwally

Omar Metwally, half Egyptian, half Dutch with an Egyptian father and a Dutch mother is a Muslim actor working in Hollywood, he is known for his roles in Rendition, Munich, Miral, Non-Stop and others.

 

15)  Alexander Siddig

Alexander Siddig originally Siddig El Tahir El Fadil El Siddig Abderrahman Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Karim El Mahdi is a British/Sudanese Muslim actor especially famous for roles in Game of Thrones, Gotham, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and many other movies and TV shows.

 

16) Omar Sy

Omar Sy is a French Muslim actor known for the Golden Globe nominated film The Intouchables, Jurassic World, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Two is a Family and Samba.
